Cherrapunji Urf Fog City of Maharastra- Igatpuri

The clouds that kiss the road are the misty Maharashtra’s Cherrapunji and the Fog City called Igatpuri. It hails in the Sahyadri mountain ranges in the Western Ghats. It falls in the Nasik region and is close to the city, too. The Misty fogs are incessant here and make the road a snow trail to pass your car through. The ponderous rains make it a complete rainy getaway.

The early name of Igatpuri is Egutpoora as per its historic roots.

It is ecologically rich and has a picturesque beauty in its landscape. Way back, its location had ancient trade routes that had historic significance. A popular weekend getaway for Mumbaikars and Punites.

During the Satavahana dynasty in the 10th century Tringalwadi Fort was built. The presence of the caves and the fort depicts the great historical background of Shahaji in the 1636. The Marathas also defeated the Mughals at the Mahuli fort. It was built to overlook trade routes that were connected from the Konkan-Nasik area. For adventure lovers and rock climbers, the Mahuli fort is a great paradise due to its pinnacles. 

 

The cascading waterfall is an ultimate view. Well, we’re not done yet. The Bhatsa River Valley is a scenic escape. It is known for its stunner, The Western Ghats, which are absolutely misty in the rains, with lush vegetation and rock formations that are dramatic. It is a great stop for a photo, reel, or selfie at the Mumbai-Nashik highway. Those are seeking a panoramic view and a halt at a local dhaba for some hot chai and pakodas, then be it. Bhatsa Dam is a crucial water source for Mumbai.It supplies over half the daily requirement of water alongside Tansa, Vaitarna, and Modaksagar. They provide a continuous water supply of over 50 per cent.

The Camel Valley is one such place where you will hear the drizzling sounds of water streams and green landscape to enjoy. 

Ghatandevi Mandir is known for protecting the hill, and the locals pray here to Ghatan devi with the belief that it will always take care of the hills. It is located in the astounding valley of the Majestic peaks of Harihar, Durbar Utvad and Trimbak, forming a striking backdrop.

A 1200-year-old Shiva named Amruteshwar is very famous and a must-visit. It’s near Bhandardara Ratanwadi. It has ancient India’s craftsmanship that one can explore and witness. 

You can’t miss the Everest of Maharashtra, “Kalsubai Peak”. It has a beautiful staircase that takes you to the highest point among the clouds and mist. It has some great and stunning views of Alang Ratangad and the Bhandara lake. At the summit, you can take darshan from Kalsubai Devi Mata.

Vada pav is something that you can’t miss, as it is Igatpuri’s most popular local street food, which everyone stops to relish. You can also see lots of local stalls where you can pick up handmade chutneys, snacks, masalas, and handicrafts. If you live locally, you will experience their culture and traditions

Where is Igatpuri exactly, and how to reach here?

You can take a flight to Nasik or Mumbai and then drive up to 120 km to Igatpuri. There are many trains and buses available too. Its a beautiful drive at the NH 3.The Igatpuri railway station is a technical stop for long-distance trains going to and from to Mumbai Metropolitan region.Monsoons are a great season to enjoy the rains, greenery and waterfalls. (June to September). Winters have good, cold and pleasant weather for outdoors and trekking.
